HAPPY SEPTEMBER CRAFTERS! So sorry for the delay on this blog post, but I didn't forget about you all. My dog Pebbles had her second ACL surgery in two months so I am feeling tired, uncreative, and broke.

SO I AM COMING AT YOU with a nice simple craft this month. We are going to be making felt pins!!

At a garage sale recently I got a number of pins which is what inspired this craft. If you have done the crafts from months past you most likely won't have to get many supplies, so hopefully this is a nice sustainable craft for you!

What you will need:

  • Pins -- I got mine from a garage sale but here is a link to buy some from Michaels $3.49

  • Felt -- .50 cent sheets from you guessed it... Michaels! Here is a pack!

  • Beads -- These are optional but I love adding them to mine

  • Sewing kit -- if you are choosing to use beads make sure you either have a beading needle or a verrrry tiny one!

Tutorial:

Step 1:

Cut out your felt to your desired shapes. I have made a variety of pins, but for this example we are going to look at my VOTE pin.

Step 2:

Sew on your shapes, if you are going to use beads you can poorly sew on the shapes because the beading will secure them into place!

Step 3:

Sew on the beads! This part is the most fun to me, you can really transform the look of what you are creating in this step. Honestly, I was not loving my creation before the beads so do NOT be hard on yourself in that process.

Step 4: Finish out the beading and add backing! All the backing is, is another layer in the same shape as the base made of felt to give it a clean look on the back.

Step 5: Glue or sew on the pin. I previously sewed them on, but they take 3x as long and they are equally as secure as gluing. IF you want to sew the pin on, instead of glue, make sure you sew it onto the backing before sewing it together with the front. If you are choosing to use glue, you can make it your last step. I used hot glue, but I am sure there are a variety of glues you could try.

Annnnd voila! You have made yourself a cutie little custom homemade pin. I like to add them to my bags, but they could honestly go on anything.. If you were feeling extra crazy you could even make small ones and put them on hair pins. The possibilities are endless! I can't wait to see what you all make!!!!!
