Hellllloooo lovely crafters! So excited to share with you the first craft...which is (drum role please) Felt Fruit!!!!

Felt Fruit is the first craft idea that made me fall in LOVE with felt. This month I am going to show you how to make a strawberry, but I encourage you to try out your own fruits and share them in the comments!

Materials:

Felt:

  • Michaels has felt sheets for 49 cents

  • You will only need one sheet of each color you use for your fruit

Stuffing:

Beads:

  • Surprise! Michael also has beads, but Amazon, local beads stores, and sometimes thrift stores have great bead options! (this is also optional, if you would like to use all felt you can!)

  • Scissors

  • Sewing Kit

    • You will want a small needle (or a beading needle) and thread (I like to have the thread match my felt)

Total Cost: roughly $11 (without beads and with two sheets of felt)

Step 1: Chose your fruit!! I am going to make a strawberry

Step 2: Start cutting your shapes. (I loooove to use pinterest to look up inspo pictures. It can help with shaping and also getting your creativity flowing) -- don't be mean to yourself, part of the fun is learning as you go and making something unique to you

Step 3: Beading!!! I take my smallest needle (or you can purchase a beading needle) and sew each bead on individually or in groups of three (if they are up against each other) -- I think beading is the most fun part because you can make something super unique to you and make it a little funky, realistic, whatever YOU like most

Step 4: Once you have tied off your beads its time to start constructing. The two main stitches I use are a running stitch and a blanket stitch (there are amazing tutorials on youtube for both of these). Depending on the shape, I think blanket stitch often looks more polished.

Step 5: Get about 2/3rds of the way through sewing the base of your fruit together, and start stuffing! Once stuffed, finish sewing your fruit to completion

Step 6: Repeat for all additional components and sew them together! (leaves, additional berries, etc).

Step 7: Share!!! There are so many fruits to chose from and I am SO excited to see what everyone creates!!!! Please please please share what you make in the comments!

General Tips:

  • If you get a knot in your thread just tie it off, cut it, and start fresh. Taking a knot out is SO frustrating and not worth it.

  • If something doesn't look right you can cut your thread and take the beads off. this should be relaxing and creative so don't box yourself in.

  • Putting a show or podcast on is also really nice. You can watch a comfort show (new girl...) and create at the same time!

  • Ask for help!! This is a community of crafters with fun ideas and unique perspectives and I am sure people have more to offer than I do in this post.

SO EXCITED FOR THIS MONTHLY CRAFT CLUB!! If you would like to share your creation on tiktok as well pleaaaaseee tag me @gabsarooatyahoo. I want to repost and see what you are making!

Finally was able to finish my fruit !! I’ve never done felt or really beading before so the stitching is super wonky but this was so fun for me 🤭 I made a beaded fig and I decided to turn it into an ornament that I can use during the holidays :) I literally went and got some more felt so I can make more bc I think this is gonna be my new hyper fixation LMAO I love craft club y’all 😭💖💖⭐️🫶🏻

Another pro tip: source beads from old jewelry at the thrift stores!

I just cut and unstring the beads. Plus they are usually very unique.
